Call Backs: March 4 from 9am to 12 noon.
Held at 1050 Crespi Drive in the Bootzin Building (The new Portables)
Ages 10 & Up.
Rehearsals 4pm-7pm Fridays starting 3/10.
Tech Rehearsals are: 6/5, 6/6, 6/7 Opening either 6/8 or 6/9 TBD. Tech is 4pm-7pm.
Shows: 6/8 or 6/9 @ 7pm, 6/10 @ 2pm & 7pm, 6/11 @ 2pm.
6/16 @ 7pm, 6/17 @ 2pm & 7pm, 6/18 @ 2pm.
Come prepared with your sheet music and a photo/headshot and resume. Be prepared to fill out a conflict calendar. This is a short rehearsal period for a big show. Please do your homework to determine ALL conflicts BEFORE the audition.
We will be casting up to 25 actors. 8 titled roles. Up to 12 ensemble & 5 featured dancers. Ensemble will have some lines and is heavily involved in the telling of this story. 5 featured dancers must audition separately at call backs.
Pippin Character Descriptions
PIPPIN Young, confused protagonist. He is longing to find the purpose of his life. Naïve, innocent and discontent. Vocal range: G2-Ab4
BERTHE Saucy grandmother of Pippin. A brassy women full of wisdom, grace and sass. Vocal range E3-C5
CATHERINE A widow and mother. She is a hopeless romantic, who possesses graceful elegance. Encounters Pippin at his lowest point and falls in love with him. Vocal range F#3-Db5
CHARLEMAGNE Pippin’s demanding father. As the King of the Holy Roman Empire, Charlemagne is more comfortable wielding a sword than breaking bread. He wears his years with great pride. Vocal G2-E4
FASTRADA Pippin’s conniving stepmother, she is both beautiful and smart. Devious, crafty, cunning, untrustworthy. Dedicated to gaining the throne for her darling son, Lewis. Vocal A3-F5
LEWIS. Charlemagne and Fastrada’s son. Strong and not bright. Pippin’s halfbrother and after Pippin, heir to the throne. Addicted to the physical, Lewis loves weight lifting, Lewis loves wrestling, but most of all, Lewis loves Lewis. Requires good physicality.
LEADING PLAYER The ultimate ‘ring leader.’ Masterfully charming and manipulative, the Leading Player is a chameleon of sorts. Guides Pippin through his own story and tries to intervene at the end. Excellent mover. Obsessed with putting on a great show for the audience. Role requires strong sense of movement. Vocal Db3-Ab4
THEO Catherine’s son. Surly teenager who comes to care for Pippin.
THE PIPPIN ENSEMBLE! DANCE+VOCAL
Heavily featured throughout. Ensemble “Players” play many other roles; they represent the influences and voices in Pippin’s life. Includes substantial movement and choreography. Please indicate if you have experience in tumbling or acrobatics. Hoping for jugglers, magic tricksters, etc. All ensemble members will have small characters with lines to perform. We will be casting 12 Ensemble Players.
