
Spindrift School of Performing Arts offers leveled classes in Musical Theatre and Improvisation to students ages 5 – 18. In addition, we offer Performance classes throughout the year that culminate in a staged production, from musical theatre shows to comedic or dramatic work. In Spindrift’s leveled classes, students work toward discipline specific benchmarks and receive a Progress Certificate at the end of each session with instructor feedback and personalized recommendations for next steps in training. Musical Theatre Benchmarks
Musical Theatre I
-
- Memorization of lines and lyrics so that they can be done without assistance (+ cue lines)
- Practicing choreography at home so you can do it without instructor modeling.
- Showing focused and respectful behavior.
Musical Theatre II
- All of the above, and also:
- Independent memorization of lines, lyrics, and choreography outside of class.
- Writing down all of your blocking, lyrics, and choreography.
- Ability to add dynamic character choices through direction from the instructor.
Musical Theatre III
- All of the above, and also:
- The ability to set your own training goals. (music, acting, dance)
- Able to independently prepare an audition piece and present it during an audition process (includes a dance call and working with live accompaniment)
- Successfully responsible for your role in a more challenging musical theatre production.
